MANAWATU HUNT.
Followers of the hounds had a most enjoyable time on Saturday afternoon at Aokautere, where two good runs were obtained over the paddocks along the roadside. After the recent heavy rain the going was pretty heavy in places, and some of the fences were stiff, two circumstances that got several riders into, difficulties, but for. tunatcly no one was hurt, unless it was to their feelings by the amusement they caused the big crowd of spectators.. There was some splendid jumping, and the hunt proved a most pleasant one. Those riding to hounds were; Miss B. Thornley (on Coker’s Prince), Miss Betty Jo.hnston (Tom Thumb), Messrs W. Scott, deputymaster (Skipper), J. Sexton, huntsman (Vladist), L. Little, hon. whip (Ah Fu), R. Sexton (Prudence), D. Scott (Cossack), W. Gosling * (Cocker’s Chestnut), R. Williams (a chestnut), G, C. Birch (ivangaroo), E. L. Olliver (Freckles), M. E. Wood (Orleans), D. Vile (Prudence), J. Doreen (Unch* Bob), A. Ferguson (Honeywood), F. Edmonds (Vigilo), and others. The drags were laid by Messrs W. Gosling ri, Williams, and J. Doreen, At the conclusion of the hunt an ad. journment was mad© to the Public Hall, where followers of the hounds and the spectators were entertained at afternoon tea by the ladies of the district. The president of the Hunt (Mr S. R. .Lancaster) proposed a vote of thanks to the ladies who had pro. vided for them so hospitably, and also their thanks to the property.owners, the motion being carried with cheers. In replying to the vole of thanks on behalf of the ittdies and propertyowners, Mr O. W. Williams said he knew it gave the ladies of the district great pleasure to provide the afternoon tea. Speaking on behalf of the pro-perty-owners he could assure the Hunt Club that they were only too delighted to have the hounds in their district. They had broken fresh ground that day, and ho knew same of the jumps were a bit stiff for those new at the game. This, however, could be remed. led, and property.owners would be pleased to give the Hunt Club the use of their paddocks as often as they liked to come along.
The next -meet will be on Wcdncs. day, at Punga Iwi, Makina Road, a few miles out of Feiiding. Fell ding.
