Miss Quecnle Clifton has returned to Wanganui, after visiting her sister, Mrs Bott, at Palmerston North,

Mrs Horace Hewitt and her children have returned to Hamilton, from the Manawatu, where they had been spending a holiday.

Mrs H. Whitehead, of Palmerston North, is a daughter of the late Mr G. L. Jennis, who died on Thursday at the family residence, Belmont Road, Lower Hutt, at the age of 77 years.

Mrs David Collins (Te Kopura, Featherston) is at home again from Palmerston North, where she had been staying with Mrs Lionel Abraham.

Mrs Margaret Spain, who died on Wednesday in the Pahiatua Hospital, had resided at Mangatainoka for a lengthy period. She was aged 70 years. Her husband predeceased her a few years ago.

The engagement is announced of Miss Ruth E. Hunt, youngest daughter of Mr and Mrs G. Hunt, of Pahiatua, to Mr Lawrence T. Russell, fourth son. of Mr and Mrs J. B. Russell, of Wei-, ington.

A sale of work, under the auspices of the St. Barnabas’ Church ladies’ guild will be held in the public hall, Bunnythorpe on Wednesday, May 16, at 2 p.m. In the evening at 8 p.m,, there will be a grand concert, for which there is to be good talent. A, dance will follow, the music being! supplied by Mr H. Paul, WEEK END DANCES. At the Municipal Band dance on, Saturday evening, 50 or 60 couples occupied the floor and spent a most enjoyable evening. Messrs. J. R. Smith and D. Dexter were M.’sC. \ Under the auspices of the Loyal Manawatu Lodge, M.U.1.0.0.P., a jolly dance —the first of a series—was held at J,he Oddfellows, Hall, on Sat-, urday evening. Smith’s orchestra provided irresistible music to which a large company danced until a late hour. Mesdames Gillies, Walton, and Imrie were chaperones and supervised a dainty supper. Mr R. C. Webb was M.C. Over 130 couples participated in the dancing at the Empire Hall on Saturday night an enjoyable evening beingspent by all. Extras were played by Miss Hale, and Messrs Choat and Milward, Mr Duckworth’s orchestra supplying the music. Mr T. Mathie officiated as M.C.

Girls' school and college cardigans for 11/9 each are good buying for mothers. Soft and warm in navy, mustard, jade, creme, rose, fawn or henna, at Collinson and Cunninghame’s.*
