NOTES,] According t'o reports, the lodal horse Mervotia was slightly unlucky on Thursday at Hawera. He lost several lengths at the start, and then finished close up third. Sir Burnett was made a warm favourite for the open sprint' at Hawera on Thursday. He led into the straight, but faded out in the run home, and finished just out of a place. Musketoon was badly placed in the early part of the Ngamut'u Hack, but once into the straight, he finished very fast and just got up in time to win by a narrow margin from Otapawa and Treadwell, who made most of the running. Galicia had a lead of about 20 lengths on the field when he fell in the open steeplechase, seven furlongs from home, leaving Polthogue to go on and win easily from Gang Awa whose chancre looked hopeless half a mile from home. With half a mile to go in the open sprint, Amber Tips was lying last, 10 lengths behind the leaders, but in the run up the straight he finished veryfast and got through on the rails to win nicely by a neck.

Velociform and Silver San got chopped out at the start of the Borough Handicap, and were never afterwards sighted.

An exchange says T. Bound’s efforts on Amber Tips and Lochson were of the best, and gained him many friends.

The local horseman J. Kaan, had the mount on Price, when that gelding was successful in the hurdles.
