CHILDREN’S CANTATA.
AT THE TIVOLI. Nothwifhstanding the inclemency of the weather, the funds for St. John’s Church organ, will benefit considerably by the entertainment given on Wednesday evening. Mrs. J. G. Grimshaw and friends arc to be heartily congratulated on the artistic stage arrangements and the vocal efforts of the children. The first part consisted of a cantata “ Soot and the Fairies,” and the moral of Soot’ and the Fairies (purity) was excellently portrayed. Captain. Soot (Master Jack Kitchen), Fairy Queen (Bertha Dewe), Dr. Sunlight Soap (Ida Cleland), fairies and black brigade, causing no end of fun. A unique idea was the fireside scene, which was also well condeived and parried out. Solos were given by M aisle Smith, Ida Cleland, Meg Knyvett, and Jack Kitchen, and a Dutch dancie by the Misses Knyvett and Kingsbcer. After the interval, the children had a rare hour all to themselves. Here again originality and pretty scenic effects wore obtained, the children engaging in parlor games and music. Items were given ind ances, choruses, duets, recitations and solos, songs by Master Jack Kitchen, Bertha Dewe, Ida Cleland, Maisie Smith and Meg Knyvett. The singing of the National Anthem brought a very successful evening to a dose, and those responsible are strongly recommended to have a. vhalinee performance during the coining week.
