The V.A.T.C. spring meeting was continued to-day at Caulfleld in fine weather, with a large attendance. There was a big field in the Mona Nursery. Royal Thought made a good run in the straight, and won well. He cost his owner (Mr Eccles) 325gns. Great excitement was caused by the defeat of Eurythmic in the Herbert Power Stakes. Purser, after lying sixth at the mile, was third into the straight. It was a slow-run race at the beginning, but the last half-mile was covered in 48ssccs, and the last six furlongs in 1.14 ii. Purser is engaged in the Caulfleld Cup with 8.7. Principal results: MONA NURSERY, of 750sovs; 4i furlongs. Royal Thought, 7.12 1 Black Scot, 8.12 2 Haloed, 7.12 3 Twenty-four started. Kennefil took the lead early, and Eurythmic, who was second in the last six furlongs, came up fast on the outside, but just failed to win, being beaten by half a neck, with three-quarters of a length between second and third. The Cypher was ninth. Time, 2min 23Jsecs. COONGRY HANDICAP, 1 mile, 3 furlongs. Paratoo, C. 13 1 Double Bezique, 7.12 2 Master Vibrator, 7.9 3 Twenty-six started. Gentian led for six furlongs, then Tangalooma went to the front and led into the straight. Paratoo occupied third position at the half-mile and came through to win easily by three lengths; third horse three lengths away. Stare was fifth, and Tangalooma tenth. Time, 2min lOiJsecs.
