RETRENCHED OFFICER'S PETITION.
(From Our Parliamentary Reporter.) WELLINGTON, Last Night. Compensation for loss of position on account of his retrenchment was claimed by Wm. Alfred Baldwin, formerly Inspector for the Labour Department at Palmerston North. The Public Petitions Committee reported in a non-committal manner by referring the petition to the Government for consideration. Messrs Nash and Wilford and Sir John Luke spoke in high terms of the petitioner's work as a public servant and expressed the hope that the Government would recognise his claim.
