WOOL CHARGES DISCUSSED. (Per Press Association.) WANGANUI, Last Night. The annual conference of the Wel-lington-Wairarapa Farmers' Union was opened to-day, Mr. H. Morrison presiding over a large attendance o delegates. The following remits were carried:—- ■ That the conference strongly protests against the unjust deduction of 41b weight to make a reduction in their charges of handling wool, especially the charge of one farthing a pound for receiving, weighing and lotting; that the inter-provincial conference be requested to give consideration to the matter of excessive and, oher charges on wool; that the Government bale the wool called graft by the selling brokers; that the former arrangement of 14 lays' prompt with regard to the payments for wool sold be reverted to; that the Woolbrokers Association be requested and. urged to bring down legislation to make slock and station firms liable for payment on sales of live stock! made through them or their agents for forward delivery; and that, an export board should be formed to represent every branch of the farming industry. Additional remits were carried as follows: —(1) Urging the abolition of compulsory preference to unionists; (2) objecting- to the Railway Department prohibiting its servants assisting to load cream cans: (3) Drawing the attention of the Railway Department to the. penalty imposed on New Zealand freezing works by the high freight on frozen meat compared with live slock; (5) Urging a reduction of railway freights. General complaint, was made of damage done to crops by hares. It was pointed out that in some localities reafforestation was impossible owing to the damage done to young trees, and it was said the pest was as bad a rabbit. It was decided to take steps to have the protection of hares removed.
