WAIKIKI HAWAIIAN S, The, Waikiki Hawaiians, who appear in Everybody’s Theatre on Tuesday and Wednesday next, are sure to be accorded a bumper house. The entertainment is a unique one, full of pleasant surprises, and in every way beyond reproach. Mr Keoke Greig, the producer, is a most accomplished artist, and whatever he touches seems to give forth the most delightful melody. Not only his steel guitar, but even his two “kauri logs” are instruments of music in his accomplished hands. As a pianist he would be hard to beat, and altogether Mr Keoke Greig is amongst the first rank of musical artists. Part 1. “Hawaiian Nights,” introduces tropical life, depicting the Hawaiian natives’ surroundings and customs —making “poi,” brewing “kava,” and the famous "Luau Hula,” danced by Miss Lilliokalani. This dance is distinctly a novelty. Booking is now in active operation at Oates’ music store, and early application is advised. The company intends to give a performance at the Palmerston North Public Hospital at 3.30 on Tuesday afternoon, KosyT An admirably varied programme will be presented at the Kosy Theatre to-day and to-night. Mack Sennett’s latest and greatest comedy, “Home Talent,” has been booked, and those who have viewed tms much-talked-of comedy spectacle agree that it is one of the best productions that has emanated from the Sennett studios in many months. a Parisian Scandal,” another feature film, introduces Marie Prevost in a congenial role. The story deals With the adventures of an American professor and a Parisian vamp, and is full of humorous incidents. Another episode of the thrilling serial “Terror Trail,” and a Sherlock Holmes story, “The Dying Detective,” will also be screened. PALACE. “Brtrtc,. the News to Mother,” which is to be screened at the Palace Theatre this evening, is a story of small-town life and a boy whose one aim in T ; uc was the happiness of his mother. How his rival for the hand of the girl he loved “framed” him, and how, after many trials, happiness was his ieward, is dramatically told in this story which will make you smile through the tears. The plans for the season open at the Kosy Theatre office to-day. * EVERYBODY’S. “Conflict” attracted another large attendance to Everybody’s Theatre on Saturday evening, and the many exciting incidents in this gripping drama were closely followed. This fine picture will receive its final screening tonight. “The Gaumont Graphic with a record of interesting events will also be exhibited. INDEPENDENT PICTURES. THEDA BARA IN “WHEN MEN DESIRE.” Only in rare instances can a woman win a man’s love by posing as a cociuette. Stepping into the shoes of a notorious woman is the sole means by which the heroine in “When Men Desire” can find her way back into her lover’s /rms. This William 1-ox-production, in which Theda Bara is starring, opens to-night at the Independent Theatre. Miss Bara plajs the part of an innocent young woman who is kept a prisoner by jealous rivals. No matter what she does to escape, she is always caught. A last she dons the garments and the manners of a woman whose bad reputation is well known. Through her smiles and coquetry she wins the aid of some of the lovers of the woman she impersonates, and thus finds hei true lover at last. The picture is said to abound in hair-breadth escapes and thrilling situations, and it points to the conclusion that beauty is a woman’s most dangerous weapon, as well as her most vulnerable point, the truly beautiful woman is exposed to the greatest dangers in the world. At the same time she can use her beauty as a snake uses its poison fang's. In “When Men Desire, 1 ' the beauty ol Marie Bohr (Theda Bara) makes her the prey of unscrupulous men, but with the same beauty she foils the plans of her assailants. Her escape forms a startling climax. The other big film on the programme is “Smiles and Trumps”—a first-class comedy of several reels. It is a railroad story that moves like the speed of a nonstop special with Cupid at the driving wheel, and has a strong cast. Also showing, “The Ghostly Wallop ’ and “Fox News.” “Over the Hill,” the greatest picture of the year, will be here on May 22 nd.
