THE GENERAL ELECTION.
Messrs McNicol, Ransome and Rice are considered certain as contestants for the Dannevirke seat. Mr Ransome, ex-Mayor of the town, is deemed to be an equally certain winner. Those who have known him longest and best regard him as the most capable leader of men in Hawke’s Bay. The name of Mr Monk, chairman of the Horowhcnua County Council, has been mentioned in connection with the Otaki seat at the general election. Mr G. W. Tayler’s name is mentioned by the Eltham ‘"Argus” as that of a possible Liberal candidate for the Egmont electorate. Mr Tayler, who is an hotelkeeper at Eltham. was the fix-st Mayor of the borough.
