A FATAL ACCIDENT

AX DANNEViUKE RAILW AY CROSSING. (Per Press Association.) DANNEVIRKE, Last Night. A collision occurred at the Allardice Street Railway crossing between 5.80 and (I p.m., between a train and a motor lorry, which resulted in the death of a man named Jimmy O’Brien, presumed to be between 45 and 50 years of age. Deceased had one leg, the left one having been previously amputated above the knee. "Ihe lorrj was owned and driven by G. H. MacKay, butcher, of Te Rehunga, and was returning to that place from Dannevirke when the mishap occurred. The driver did not see the train, which struck the lorry fore part, carrying it over the cattle-stop. Mac Kay was thrown on to the cow-catcher, carried fifty yards, and got off unhurt when the train stopped. O’Brien was thrown on to the rails and dragged some distance. His head was much mutilated, and he was picked up dead. His relatives are unknown.
