REDUCTION IN WAGES.
SLANAWATU RESOLUTIONS
At a meeting of the executive of the Manawatu Employers’ Association, the wages question was discussed very fully, and the following resolutions were passed:— 1. That it be a strong recommendation from this Executive that all members of this Association should, as soon as the Arbitration Court has made its pronouncement in regard to the reduction in wages, give immediate effect thereto in. their business. 2. That an immediate and proportionate drop in prices should be madein every business, except where prices have already been reduced, in which case the reasons for no further reduction should be made clear to the public.
3. That in the best interests of trade and to avoid as far as possible ill-feel, mg and dissatisfaction on the part of employees, it is desirable that empdoyers should confer with their employees and explain that the . lowering of wages is not a reduction in real wages —that is, In their actual purchasing power
