Astonishing revelations are being made in connection with the Tipton "plosion. The chief inspector of Explosives gave evidence that the floor of the shop was concrete, but was impregnated with gunpowder The girls wore boots with nails and and the atmosphere was Permeated with dust from the powder. Otntr evidence showed that there was no -uard in front of the stove used for soldering purposes and that burnmg coke constantly dropped on to t e floor At the end of the day's work there would be in each box, which twenty-four girls used, about thirtysix pounds of loose powder. A boy took this powder and put it into the neighbouring canal. Knowles (husband of the factory owner) and Chadwick (manager) have been charged with manslaughter.
