MOTU RIVER MURDER.
FURTHER EVIDENCE AT TRIAIi. (Per Press Association.) GISBORNE. Last Night. During the afternoon session of tho trial of Rutene Topi for the murder of Zambucka at Motu River early on the afternoon of November 4th, Charlotte Kooper, housekeeper at Saxby's, deposed that accused had been there between 4 and 5 in the afternoon in question. He bought an axe handle . and cigarettes. His brother Peeti was there on the 10th, and overheard a telephone conversation from the police at Opotiki, which referred to No. 6 cartridges. Peeti said to her, "My cartridges are No. s.’’ Victoria Milner, residing near Omaio, stated that in November last she had been engaged to accused, and j they were to have been married at j the end of that month. Accused paid her a visit on November sth. Witness said she came from the East Coast, but did not know if Zambucka had a reputation there for gambling, or that he had been mixed up in a row with another Asiatic.
