ANNUAL CONFERENCE. r (Per Press Association.) , CHRISTCHURCH, Last Night, L The annual meeting of the Congregational Union of New Zealand opened to-day, the Rev. F. Warner, of AuckI land, presiding. The report stated j- that the work of the various churches had been well maintained. Regret s was expressed at, the. loss of many . colleagues and workers during the . year, and mention was made of the . bequest of £2OOO to the Pastors’ Provident Fund by the late Airs Daldy, of Auckland. The Committee on Union expressed itself appreciation of the courtesy and cordiality with which the Presbyterian Assembly had received its overtures. In the afternoon, r Professor Chilton 'delivered an address r on ‘'Communities, Animal and , Human,” and in the evening the chair* 1 man gave ]|is presidential address, his • | theme being “The response of the 5 Church to the cry of the times.”
