A private cablegram received in Auckland states that H. Gray arrived in England on February 27. all well, after a good trip. This will give him plenty of time to got into form before the season opens. Two well-known horsemen in F. Flynn and R. Tapp arc stated to bo seriously ill at present, and their health is causing their friends some anxiety.

Reports from Wellington mention that Coalition Is in steady work, and it is quite on the cards that he will make his reappearance at the W.R.C. meeting next month. Handicaps for first day events at the Wellington Racing Club’s meeting will be declared by Mr Coyle on Friday morning. Owners and trainers should not forget that nominations for the Manawatu Racing Club's autumn meeting close to-night. At first glance, Gloaming (10.4) seems to have more than a fair share of weight in the Doncaster Handicap, which is always one of the hardest races contested at Randwick. Still, if Beaufort (10.5) is rightly placed, the New Zealander has none the worst of it through him, as on past form any difference between them should be in favour of Gloaming, Isa (The Welkin—Tcppo), who dead-heated with Grey Abbey in the Farewell Handicap at Flcrnington on Saturday, was successful in the Dims Handicap on the second day of the meeting. Isa is a three-year-old sister to Three, who raced successfully in the Dominion a few years back. Mr C. W. B. Murchison, who was for some time stipendiary steward in New Zealand, has accepted the position of stipendiary steward to the Australian Jockey Club. He considers the Australian plan of placing the stewards in full control on race day far superior to the New Zealand system. under which they possess only advisory powers. According to “Sir Modred,” the brilliant South Island sprinter, Michacla, by Rokeby—Jessie Dewars, has been booked to visit Kilbroney. There will bo racing at Waimate to-day Mr I. Vincent will despatch the fields at the Ohinemuri meeting. Since the Dannevirke meeting, Mcntho has done really well, and promises to play her part well in the Juvenile Handicap on Saturday. Now that the tracks are getting soft, Kilgour will keep them busy. W. J. Donovan, of Hastings, passes through Palmerston North to-day with Kick Off, who will be competing at the Wellington meeting. The son of All Black will lie ridden in the St. Lcger by R. S. Bagby. You will look your best durtng the coming meetings if attired in a stylish Alf. Mahon, sports mercer, the suit and nobby hat purchased from Square. Call in and select your requirements from complete stocks of ties, hats, handkerchiefs, shirts, etc. Quality the best —prices right.*
