FOR HOTEL AND RESTAURANT EMPLOYEES. The Arbitration Court has filed its award in the Wellington country districts licensed hotel employees' dispute.. The award will operate in the Wellington district outside the 25 miles radius of the city. The hours are fixed at 48 per week: instead of 60 for men and 54 for girls, and they are to be worked on six days a week. In the case of a worker substantially employed in an hotel bar, he or she is to receive a full day’s holiday on a week day from 1 p.m. Workers are to receive a week’s holiday each year on full pay. In regard to wages, a chef in a kitchen where five hands are employed is to receive £5 and 10/ bonus per week, instead of £4 10/ and 14/ bonus under the old award. The wages go down gradually to those of kitchenmen, who are to receive £2 per week and 10/ bonus, instead of £1 tl/6 and, 14/ bonus. Casual workers' rates are advanced. In the case of a chef, the wage is to be £1 6/ per day for the first- threedays and ordinary pay thereafter.. Previously he received £1- Waiters’ wages are advanced from 10/ to 15/' per day, and those of waitresses and. pantrymen from 7-/ 0 to Eiy/O her day for the first three days, and ordinary pay thereafter. Barmenfk wages are Increased from 10/ to £1 per day.. A. casual worker la defined as one who Is employed for a lesser period than seven days,. The hours of a casual worker are reduced from 10 to 8 per. day- Casual employees working away from the employer’s place of business are to be paid their fares and for the time occupied In travelling from their departure till their return. Employees are to be paid time and a half for overtime, and the rates are to be reckoned on full pay, This is. defined as a worker’s cash wags, plus board and living allowance. Where an employee is receiving a higher wage than that prescribed in the award, it Is not to bo reduced so long as he remains in id* present employment unless the Court makes a general reduction. The usual preference Is inserted, and provision is made for the organising secretary to interview workers at their place of business. Where the employer does net launder aprons, caps, etc., he is to provide accommodation for same, failing which he Is to pay the employees 3/ additional weekly. The award wad. come into force on January 2, 1032, and remain in force till January 31, In a memorandum the Court states that the award is based on awards made recently in other districts, with certain provisions to meet local condl-. dons.
