PREMIERS CONFER
AN IMPORTANT EVENT. FOUR POWER PACT FOR EUROPE POSSIBLE. [By Electric Cable —Copyright.] [Aust. and N.Z. Cable Association.] (Received TuevJay, 5.5 p.m.) M. Briand and Mr Lloyd George have opened their conversations at Downing .Street. It is understood that they discussed generally ttie economic position of Europe, including Russia and the reparations question and subsequently a number oE matters wore referred to experts for examination. It is believed that the Conference will develop into the most important meeting since Versailles and will possibly lead to a European pact similar to' Washington's. It is regarded as significant that IJerr Rathenau arrived to-day at Mr Lloyd George's invitation and is staying at the same hotel as M. Briand, ready to be called in when wanted. Tne "Manchester Guardian" and other newspapers of standing express the opinion that Mr Lloyd George favours a tripartite agreement under which Britain, France and Germany will each be guaranteed against aggression from the others.
