THE MORATORIUM.

The Bill introduced in the House of Representatives last night for the extension of the moratorium will be received with considerable relief. The necessity for extending existing mortgages for a further period is generally ~d ..fitted. But everybody who has the well-being of the community at heart recognises that there must be an end to the business, and (hat the sooner the end is reached the better will it be for all concerned. It is, therefore, a matter for satisfaction that the Bill provides a definite date at which the moratorium shall cease, tt will be agreed that the Parliament which is elected next year will not be bound by the decision of the Legislature of to-day. One may venture the opinion, however, that once a definite date for the maturing of the moratorium is fixed, no Government would have the temerity to break faith with the community by granting a further extension of mortgages.
