HOROWHENUA. The Levin Dairy Company made its monthly payment to suppliers on Saturday. The payment was at the rate of 1/3 per lb butterfat, a fall of sixpence as compared with the previous month. The quantity of milk being received is very much larger this season than last, and is helping to make up the loss on the lower rate for butterfat. Last year 2/6 per lb was paid. The grade notes received by the Kuku Dairy Company state that the consignments of November 12th and 15th graded 94, which is equal to the. best show cheese. Blight has made its appearance among potatoes in some local gardens, due. no doubt to the dry season. The second meeting of the recentlyformed Horowhenua School Committees' Association was held on Friday, when Mr F. G. Roe (Levin) was elected president, Messrs C. I. Harkness (Ohau) and T. W. Brown (Waikanae) vice-presidents, and Rev. W. F. Grove (Levin) secretary. Mr A. C. Holms with represent the Levin Chamber of Commerce at the Dominion Conference of Chambers at Christchurch this week. The Horowhenua Racing Club, after paying about £IOOO to the Government in taxation, will make a satisfactory profit out of its recent race meeting. _ The Horowhenua County Council recently discovered that the main race which supplies the system irrigating the Levin district, was in danger ot collapse, owing to the erosion of a bank along the Ohau River on which the race is situated. A deviation is now being made by which the race will be removed from the point of danger. This work is expected to be completed before Christmas. The Horowhenua cricket competitions commenced on Saturday, when Levin Y.M.C.A. defeated Moutoa by 108 to 75, and Shannon (143) played a draw with Weraroa (four wickets for 116 >- , * . .-, The Levin Tennis Club defeated Foxton on Saturday by 18 games to 3. WOODVILLE. Messrs Antcliff and Svensen, auctioneers, McLean Street, report a fair yarding of small weaner pigs, which realised from 11/- to 14/-, also a considerable quantity of old hens were offered, which realised from 1/9 to 2/8 each; ordinary mart goods, potatoes, etc., in good demand. The ministers of Woodville met in the manse on Friday last to consider the advisability of forming a ministers' association. The Rev. Gardner presided, and it was resolved to meet on the first Monday of each month, the ministers of the other towns in the district to be asked to join. The Rev. Gardner was elected president, and the Rev. Turner secretary. Ministerial intercourse and the social, moral and religious welfare of the people are to be the prime objects of the association. Those interested in the welfare of the Horticultural Society are reminded that the annual meeting will be held on Wednesday in the school at 7.30 p.m.
