ENGLISH DERBY CUP. WON BY THE FAVOURITE. [By Electric Cable—Copyright.] [Aust. and N.Z. Cable Association.] (Received Wedne day, 5.5 p.m.) LONDON, November 19. To-day’s Derby Cup, the only important handicap of the season, was won by the first favourite, Aymestry, who beat Willonya by a head. Riverside Fairy was third. Aymestry’s victory was due to a powerful effort by Lynch, who rode Mllenko, the winner of the Cambridgeshire Stakes. A romantic feature of Aymestry’s success is the fact that the horse changed hands a few days ago, recalling the parallel case of Caligula, the winner of the 1920 St. Lcger. WINTON RACES. Mr G. D. Greenwood, the southern sportsman, has engaged accommodation for two of his horses at the Feilding meeting.

A number of horses that are engaged at the Ashhurst meeting on Wednesday arrived in Palmerston North on Saturday.

Festivity, who won well at Levin, Is among the popular fancies for the Ashhurst Cup. ■ The Hastings trainer,. F. T. Quin-

llvan, has taken Tolerance and Kilwana north for the Takapuna meeting, which opens on November 26th, and it is understood that in future he will reside at Ellerslie.

It is stated that while at Christchurch Air S. J. Gibbons refused an offer of 400 guineas for his yearling colt by imported Sunny Lake from Equitas. The youngster will probably join F. Tilley’s team next autumn, and will carry the colours of his breeder.

Air J. D. Ormond has disposed of his two-year-old gelding Snatcher, full brother to Anomaly, to a Hawera sportsman. Snatther is a good one, and his new owner should not by any means have the worst of the deal.

Three Australasian records are now held by the Kiccarton track —viz., Machine Gun's five furlongs in 58sec, Kilboyne’s six furlongs in Imin. lOsec, and Winning Hit’s giile and a-quarter in 2min. 3 l-ssec.

The Gazeley gelding Over There, who was bought in Auckland some little time back by Air T. L. Bright on behalf of a West Australian sportsman, ■won the First-class Plate (six furlongs) at the West Australian Tattersall's meeting on the sth inst.

From Alelbourne it is reported that Alaurice Grifltn, an oldtime jockey and racing man, who had some curious and exciting experiences in his time, died at Parkville recently, at the age of 74. He rode Wellington to victory in the Victoria Derby of 1878.

The following nominations have been received for the Woodville Handicap, li miles, to be run on December 7 th: —Paoanui, Anomaly, Alarqueteur, The Speaker, Punka, Kilgour, Bonnetter, Alolyneux, Affectation, Siberian, Admiral Codrington, Railand, Stork, Egmont Park, Penitent, Esperance, Kilrush, Festivity, Bagdad, Vagabond, Afaioha, Rose Wreath, Aureate, Alatatua, Passin’ Through.

At 12.13 Hylans appears to have more than a fair share of weight in the Otaio Hurdle Race at the South Canterbury meeting, for his form at Riccarton was not reassuring. Some of the lightweights, such as Staff Officer, Little Doctor and Bedrock, should be all the better for their recent racing experience.

Esperance was one of the unlucky horses seen out at the Riccarton meeting, as, after putting up a fine race in the Cup, she suffered interference in both her subsequent efforts The Blenheim-owned mare will make her next appearance in the Ashhurst Cup, which should not be beyond her capabilities.

Onyx, who won the Tramway Handicap at the Otahuhu trots on Saturday last, was bred by Mr E. L. Barnes, of Palmerston North, and was sold by him about 18 months ago for 350gns. She is by Logan Pointer out of Air Barnes’ favourite mare, Cameos.

Rude was a bit sore after racing at Riccarton, but should soon be all right again.

Another has to be added to the stories of men who dreamed dreams that brought them fortune. The latest story concerns a butcher at Wentworth Falls, some miles from Sydney. He had u dream on the night before the Alelbourne Cup, and as he dreamed he heard the cry “Sister Olive! Sister Olive wins!” He boarded the firsi. train to Sydney, and on Tuesday afternoon collected £750, and returned to his town, where he entertained his friends to a toasting of "Sister Olive” and dreams in general.
