SURPLUS WOOL PROFITS.

(To the Editor.) Sir,—You have been good enough to publish and comment upon some letters of mine on the subject of Wool Profits, and 1 now venture to ask you to print another. Seeing that Mr Massey has not succeeded in obtaining a share of the hundreds of millions sterling profit made by tho Imperial Government out of the Australasian sheep farmers, I am advocating a friendly law suit against the Imperial Government for tho many breaches of contract which have occurred, but entirely at the beneficiaries own expense, and preferably through the Farmers’ Union. It is surely now abundantly proved that the Dominion and Commonwealth farmers have', through the Commandeer Contract, had to pay more than an equitable share of war expenses, and the dislocation of markets brought about by the commandeer has added to the losses of our producers, and depleted our only wages fund. 1 am sorry to see tho butter market at Homo in such an unsettled state, but the statistical position belies the prognostications of the many Job’s comforters who have no interest in the producers, and want to make money at their expense. The Food Commissioner, who appears to have no gratitude for past favours in the way of cheap butter, seems to be partly, if not altogether, responsible for the present slate of affairs, taut this stale stuff cannot last much longer, and the general belief is that prices must improve ere long. Sir Thomas Mackenzie should be sent Home post haste, to combat the position, if he will accept office as the Farmers’ representative there. It is a thousand pities he was not appointed last year, when ho relinquished the position of High Commissioner, but better late than never. We need a brainy man badly there.—l am, etc. W. MILNE.
