NOTES. (By “Avis.") Jock is reported to have been getting through satisfactory schooling tasks lately and may be given a run in 'the hurdle race at Methven next month.

A racehorse, Gawler, was electrocuted near Adelaide while walking in wet grass alongside an electric light wire. The jockey escaped because the mare had a rubber rug on.

Farceur ■at present Is the hiost brilliant outside Epitaph, but the manner-in which Tressayr beat Prosperity on tji.e Anal day suggests good things later. The little fellow, which is Australian-bred, by Trcssady from Ayrshire Maid, is as game as they make them, and is a ■'resolute fin r isher.

The Juvenile Plate, which the Canterbury Jockey Club put on the progra.mme to replace the deleted Electric Plate, did not attract a very good field, and owners do not give the club much encouragement to cater for this class of event. None of the leading two-year-olds were produced, and, while it is the privilege of every owner to please himself, they must not complain if some day the - clubs adopt a similar attitude and provide for another class of horse.

Including the stake, Mr F. W. Norman, owner of Sister Olive, is credited with winning £25,000 over the success of his filly in the Melbourne Cup.

Mr R. B. Lusk has been appointed judge, Mr F. J. McManemin handicapper, and Mr R. H. Skipwith starter to the Hamilton Racing Club.

The yearling colt by Absurd from imported Week End was sold privately last week by Mr G. B. Starkey. It is understood that the youngster will race in the colours of an Otago lady.

Royal Mac raced well throughout the Canterbury Jockey Club’s meeting, but with consistent bad luck. He was just behind the placed horses in the Stewards’ Handicap, while in the Criterion Handicap ho was second_ Then he ran third in the Jockey Club Handicap, in one of the best finishes df the meeting, and he wound up by filling second place again on Saturday, in the Members’ Handicap. It was a remarkable coincidence, showing the consistent form of the two horses, that on each day of the meeting he came home immediately behind Affectation.

Right out in front.—Alf Mahon’s Stock of Men’s Wear. Call on the Sports’ Mercer when you are in town.*
