CHAMPION RIDER.
Mil P. COLEMAN HONOURED. The delegates to the New Zealand Auto-cycle Union conference took part in a pleasing function at Bunting's studios yesterday morning, when Mr, Percy Coleman was presented with the New Zealand heavy-weight chain, pionship cup, which he won at the Poverty Bay meeting- in 1920. Mr C. W. T. Sheehan, delegate from the Poverty Bay Club, made the presentation. In doing so lie apologised tor the delay in the cup coming to hand, which had been caused owing to its having to be procured from Home. Tiicy all knew Mr Coleman's capabilities as a rider and they extended to him their warmest congratulations oil having won the cup. Mr A. E. Davy, president of the A.C.U., said that Mr Coleman had been associated with the A.C.U. almost since its inception. It was largely the fame which Mr Coleman had earned as a rider which had brought motorcycle racing before the public artd fostered interest in the A.CJJ. Mr Coleman had further, by his exploits in America, placed New Zealand on the motor-cycling map in that country. .Throughout his riding career, Mr Coleman had proved himself a good sport, and a decent clean-living man, fully deserving the success he had achieved. Mr W. Fcnton congratulated Mr Coleman, on behalf of the Opotiki Club. Mr G. Torstonson extended the congratulations of the Manawatu Club to Mr Coleman. He had personally watched Mr Coleman's riding career since he started seven years ago; and the success which he had achieved on the track had only borne out his early promise. Mr Coleman had always acted in a sportsmanlike way, and he had played the game on and off the track. Mr Coleman briefly thanked the speakers for their sincere congratulations.
