ACCIDENTS & FATALITIES.
MAN’S LEG CRUSHED. i (Per Press Association. 5 ) WELLINGTON, February 9. , An accident occurred at the Gear meat works this morning whereby a man named William Chambers had a leg crushed from the knee downwards. He was shovelling coal from a truck, and his foot got catight in the conveyer and the leg drawn in. He, was removed to the hospital and the leg was amputated. His wife is coming from Home by the Corinthic, which is due shortly. A (Per Press Association.) MASTERTON, February 10.
An accident occurred on the Car- , terton road to-day as a result of j which a man named William Vine / and a four-year-old girl, a daughter , of Mr ;A. T. Jackson, of Masterton, were removed to the hospital. Mr. Vine and the girl were driving in a gig, and it is surmised that the horse, bolted. The screaming of the girl attracted a telegraph linesman, who found the gig jambed between a tele- ' graph post and a fence. .Mr Vine : -i was lying unconscious in the gig and the little girl was jambed against a wheel. Mr Vine was still unconscious. The girl sustained a fractured skull ’ and Mr Vine serious injuries to tho leg and head. |
