ENGINE DRIVERS’ DISPUTE.
AVORKING BASIS ARRIVED AT. (Per, Press Association.) , WELLINGTON, Last Night. For some considerable time past negotiations have been going on between the General Manager of Railways (Mr R. W. McVilly) and delegates appointed by the Locomotive Engine-drivers, Firemen and Cleaners’ Association. The secretary of the Association (Mr W. McCarley) stated to-day that a basis of agreement on all questions in dispute—wages, a 44hour week, and conditions of labour —had been arrived at. This agreement now only requires ratification by the grand councillors of the Association before being finally settled. Today the executive of the Association discussed with the General Manager the whole question of punishments for breaches of the regulations.
