HAWERA RACES. MASON ON THE MAT. (Per Press Association.) HAWERA, Last Night. There was brilliant weather lor the second day. The tote put through £46,366 against £47,360 on the second day last year, thei total for the meeting being £91,025 against £89,357 last year. There was no totalisator for the Stakes to-day.

OKAIAWiA HURDLES. —Kipling 1, Explorer 2, Signysian 3. Also started: Khartoum, Te Toa, Banogue, Hushman, Sir William, Otonga, Prairie Maid. Signysian tired over the last furlong. Also ran; Rossini, Acre, Simonides, Admyra, Tirana. A flashing finish, won by a neck, one and a-half lengths between second and third. Simonides fell, but Gray was unhurt. Time, 1.14. JUVENILE HANDICAP. —lAmorel 1, Mixture 2, Mockery 3. Also started: Truthful, Tommy Rot, Thespian and Roman. A popular win by a head, half a length between second and third. Time, 1.2. ATKINSON MEMORlAL.—Landslide 1, Crucelle 2, Rente 3. Also started; Marquteur, Volo, Listowel, and Egmont Park. Coming round the bend Marqusteur and Landslide moved up. The latter with a great rush on the inside entering the straight, got through and won by half a length, Pente a similar distance away third. Time, 2.7. MAIDEN HACK SCCURY.- -Gaiety Girl 1, Absurdum 2, Top Dog 3. Also started; . Awake, Parkman, Tivoli, Sunbath, Sunny Jim, Prince Ferouz, Interest, Kato, Valdina, Rangitapu Golden Vi. Aotearoa, Lady Polly, Rausiki, Huiroa and Potona. Gaiety Girl with a fast run cut down the leader and won a good race by threequarters of a length, Absurdum half a length away third. Time, 1.31. STAKES. —Gloaming 1. Vespucci 2. The only starters. Won by two lengths. Time, 1.52. An enquiry was held under Part 25, of Clause 1, regarding the running of Vespucci. Mason the trainer was reported as having said that as Vespucci was sore he instructed the jockey not lo push him. The stewards passed the following: That the Committee are generally dissatisfied with the instructions given by Mason, trainer, and also the jockey’s handling of the horse.
