Interviewed after the launching of a 12,000 ton steafaier from the Vulcan yard, Hindcnburg said: The French desire for the Ruhr district is a danger which must be taken seriously but must not intimidate us into surrendering to the Entente’s unreasonable demands. I hope the Government will remain firm this time; dignity alone demands it. In America a complete change of opinion has come about in our favour. Stresseman,. the Nationalist leader, in an election speech, said Germany’s greatest error in the war was that she did not try to float war loans in America. We will now, however, prove to America that our reconstruction is in the interests of the United States. The idea of persuading America to exercise pressure on the Allies and reduce the reparations demands |s the keynote of the political campaign. ,
