UAIII IN THE SOUP Mr Clifford Thorne, of Chicago, has told tho Inter-State Commerce Commission that Chinese pigtails pressed nto cloth were used for Alteration, •.training .soups, and similar purposes. Before the war European supplies of goat and camel hair were drawn on, he said, for filteration purposes, but when this source was cut off manufacturers turned to China, where the fall of the Manchu dynasty was followed by abolition of the edict directing Chinese subjects to wear queues. [ln future, when a hair is discovered in the soup, this may inspire the waiter to give a new explanation.]
