KAIRANGA COUNTY COUNCIL.

I* » m YESTERDAY'S MEETING. The Kairanga County Council met yesterday. Present: Councillors J. Linklater (chairman), D. Collis, D. Prouse, F. W. Hubbard. J. Batchelar, W. R. Hopcroft, S. R. Lancaster, Anderson and P. J. Small. DANGER SIGNS. Cr. Small reported as to danger signs. From observations made he had come to the conclusion that the triangle sign was the most effective. The speed motorists travelled' through Longburn was excessive. He urged that signs, regarding speed limits be erected. If they limited it to 15 miler an hour the motorists would do 20 miles, and that was quite fast enough. It was desided that the triangle be adopted as the standard sign throughout the county; that 15 miles bo the speed limit through Longburn, and that the signs now at the township b' removed to the other side of the street. SPEEDING UP OPERATIONS. Cr. Small asked the engineer if i< was possible to speed up the road work of the county and referred to the output capacity of the crusher which was doing less than anticipated. The engineer explained that much difficulty was being experienced in getting certain machinery, the absence of which was delaying operations. In connection with the output of metal, as much as possible was being done but undoubtedly more could be accomplished by extra expenditure in the way of increased ;taff.—Cr. Small did not blame the engineer but said that something would have to be done to warrant their existence on the Council. They had promised to give the people better roads and they must keep faith with them. The engineer was asked to place some concrete proposal before the Council for a general speeding up policy regarding the road works. CORRESPONDENCE. Jarvis to abate the nuisance he was alleged to have caused in the Board's No. 1 drain by pouring in offensive matter from his flaxmill. —It was decided to institute legal steps to have the nuisance abated. Messrs Croad Bros., Linton, asked that the work in connection with improvements to the hill on Hewitt's road—which is being lessened in grade—be carried out as expeditiously as possible.
