IRELAND'S PROBLEMS.
PRELATE'S PRONOUNCEMENT. [By Electric Cable — Copyright.] [Aust. arid N.Z. Cable Association.] \ LONDON, February 7. Bishop Cohalan, of Cork, in his Lenten pastoral letter, says that, according to the teaching of the Church, Ireland is not a republic, as the Pope has not acknowledged it. The proclamation of the Sinn Fein members of Parliament is not sufficient to constitute it as such. If Ireland were a sovereign state she should have the right to use physical force, but if she were not, then physical force is unlawful. However desirous of absolute independence she may be, it cannot be held that she is validly a sovereign state. Whenever it has been tried in the past physical force has failed to restore freedom. If the Partition Bill is not amended and an election announced, electors should insist on the fullest freedom and consider whether to take what they have got and strive for better, or indefinitely submit to Crown colony oppression.
