CIRCUS TO-NIGHT.
Of St. Leon's circus, which arrive? hero by special train to-day, the "Hawke's Bay Tribune" says:—The combination is undoubtedly the besf of its kind that has appeared ii? Hastings for time, and the entertainment is of i clever, versatile and, in several instances, of an unique- 1 character. Each item elicited louc? applause, those present highly appreciating the clever feats of tin various artists and trained animals. Chief among a large number of acts wore the somersaults by the Rezan. tine troupe, the "Aerial Dental Act' by the Odessa sisters (3)', in which they hang from a trapeze by their teeth, the performance ending with the simultaneous opening of three parachutes, displaying - Allied flags; tricks by the pony Reuben, including *he kicking of a huge football; exhibition of bareback riding by Mr Sylvester St. Leon; the contortionist feats by "Frances," the "Human Frog," in which he twisted himself into all manner of shapes and forms; the revolving ladder act by the clowns Joey and Wollum; the acrobatic stunts of the St. Leons; the wirewalking by Mile. Golda; the living statuary by the Renfrew troupe; the exhibitions given by an artist standing on his head, including the playing of a mandolin; the performances of the poodles, collies, fox terrier, sheep and pigs, which amply demonstrated to what a marvellous degree animals, especially the canine species, can bo trained; the acrobatic "turns," the high-jumping on horseback by "Dummy," and the eccentricities and comicalities of an unusually good set of clowns, who kept the audience eonvu.'sed with laughter while they were "doing their bit." Excellent music was supplied by the orchestra, which completed a programme which was highly meritorious and successful.
