For the second day of the Caulfleld spring meeting, the weather was fine and bright and there was a good attendance. The going was fair. Salatis, top weight, made most of the running in the Mona Nursery, and won well. The winner was ridden by the Auckland native, Ralph Home. Salatis is owned by the breeder, J. Mills. The Cup candidate, Tangalooma, finished in great style in the Power Stakes, and just won. Speciality was last. Tangalooma was trained by Holt Ulster Boy led always in the Coongy Handicap, but is not engaged in the Cup. Mona Nursery.—Salatis 8.16 *-> Stare 8.0 2, Sonora 7.9 3. Twenty starters. Salatis led over the last three furlongs, and won easily by three lengths, Sonora half a length away third. Time, 57sec. Herbert Power Stakes.—Tangalooma 8.11 (F. Dempsey) 1, Drumore 8.8 2, Double Bezique 7.7 3. Seven starters. Gringalet was in front at the mile but Drumore headed it and was lirst into the straight. Tangalooma was fourth in the early stages, but came fast and won by a short half head, 1J lengths between second and third. Time, 2.23 £.. Coongy Handicap.—Ulster Boy 6.12 1, Paratoo 7.3 2, Alilat 7.9 3. Won by three-quarters of a length, half a neck between second and third. Time, 2.222.
MAN-O'-WAR WINS GOLD CUP.

A message from Winsdor, Ontario, states that Man-o'-War won by seven lengths. Time, two minutes three sprondSi [An earlier cable stated that American and Canadian racing circles awaited with the keenest interest the race between Man-o'-War and Sir Barton at Winsdor, Ontario, which, it was believed, would be the greatest match in the history of the American turf. The distance was a mile and aquarter. Man-o'-War is a chestnut three-year-old and carried 9st 41b. He is owned by an American, Mr Sam Biddele. Sir Barton is a four-year-old chestnut owned by a Canadian, Commander J. R. Ross, and carried 9st 101b. Besides a purse of 75,000 dollars, a gold cup valued at 5000 dollars will be presented to the winner.] j - ;

There was a large attendance and the weather was fine in the early part of the day, but rain set in when the programme was half through. The totalisator handled £39,729 10/.
