GUNN TO DIE.

DECISION OF CABINET. (By Telegraph — "Times” Special.) WELLINGTON, Last night. In connection with the decision of Cabinet in Council not to interfere with the sentence of death passed on Dennis Gunn, the Auckland murderer, I am informed that Cabinet spent the whole morning considering the Judge’s report, examining the fingerprint evidence, and the petitions and appeals on the prisoner’s behalf. After the final decision had been arrived at, it was made known to the members of Cabinet by the Minister for Justice, that since his sentence, Dennis Gunn, who had at first refused to allow a print to be taken of his palm, had consented to this course. The Minister had received the fingerprint experts’ report on the palm print, and had it been favourable to the prisoner, it would have been communicated to the Governor-General and his advisers.
