In anticipation of the session, which Mr Massey predicts wilL last five months, full meetings of Cabinet were held throughout the day and to-night. Sir Wrn. Fraser is still a member of the Ministry, holding the portfolios of Mines and Minister i« Charge of the Legislature Departments. He will be relieved of his Ministerial work as soon as possible, when Mr Massey is able to decide whether he will appoint another Minister. An interesting appointment in connection with Parliament was arranged to-day, Mr E. W. Kane, Assistant Clerk* receiving the position of Clerk of the House of Representatives, made vacant through Mr Lome, the former holder, becoming Clerk of Parliament and taking the position on the Council staff. There are to be five or six appointments of members of the Legislative Council before the session, and the Government, in addition to the usual embarrassment due I to the pletnora of candidates, has to consider certain promises made by the National Cabinet. The Premier in reply to a question, whether the Committee of Imperial Defence is likely to meet shortly, in accordance with the hope expressed by the British Minister, said that he did not anticipate any meeting this year.
