CITIZENS' BALL.
FINALLY DECIDED UPON. A meeting of ladies, presided over b the Mayor, was held in the Council Chambers vesterday to consider the matter of tendering a ball to General arid Lady Birdwood and their daughter, on the occasion of their \isit to Palmerston North on July 9th. The Mayor explained that a civic reception would be given to the Gene--.<i in the afternoon, and between 7.30 •id 8.30 he would attend a soldiers' function in the Anzac Club. A meeting of citizens had recently been held, but very little interest was shown, and ii was thought better to leave the m utter of the ball in the hands of the ladies to definitely settle. The Boroch Council were unanimously agreed that it should be held. The matter was debated at length, and it was ft nail v decided to hold the ball. The charge for admission was fixed at - i 1/ for gentleman, and 10/6 for tidies Mrs Trask. Mrs Louisson, and Miss Blackmore were appointed a committee to make arrangements retrtrding the supper, while a music committee, consisting of Mrs White •md Mrs Penny, was also set. Applications for tickets are to close on Tune 26th. The ball will be held in the agricultural hall. Mr J. R. Hardie is secretary.
