OROUA COUNTY COUNCIL.

The Oroua County Council met at Feilding vesterday. Present: Councillors W. B. Pearce (in the chair), J. H. Vincent, W. Greenhow, O. MeElroy, W. McLennan and J. Morrison. CORRESPONDENCE. The borough electrical engineer wrote suggesting that several adjacent local bodies should combine and lorm one power district under the ‘‘Electric Power Boards Act, 1318.” —The Council were of the opinion that local bodies should be prepared to receive the supply of electricity from the Government power schemes the moment it is made available. The electrical engineer is to attend the next' meeting of the Conned. The Manawatu Gorge Board of Control forwarded a statement of the proposed expenditure tor the current year. % Cr Vincent reported that the conference had decided to go in for the 21ft roadway and a toll gate. The total cost of the work would be £40,000, and the Oroua County's proportion would be £32-h>. Jt had been suggested that the Council should raise the money by way of Juan, to be spread over -JO odd years

The Council endorsed the Bav of Islands County resolution dealing with the payment of rates by Maoris. It was agreed to suppoit the Stratford Borough Council’s resolution asking the do'err ...e it to make Saturday afternoon the universal halfholiday. The Pahiatna County Co'mril’s resolution, urging inclusion in “The Housing Act, i9I:V ot provision for the purchase of he ud or. which to erect dwellings, was endorsed.
