~ —— — \ MILITARY OPERATIONS V; hampered.

[By Electric Cable— Copyright.] [Aust. and N.Z. Cable Association.] LONDON. June S.

In the House of Commons, .replying to Mr T. Donald (Unionist membei for Belfast), Mr Lloyd George emphasised that the Government intended to take steps to bring to justice all persons associated with crime in Ireland. The Government, to that end, is organising an Irish Executive an strengthening the police, naval, and military forces in Ireland. Probably it would be also necessaiy to strengthen the law for dealing with crime. The Government intended to put down the present organised campaign of murder and assassination. Dublin advices state that the new military patrol system is bearing fruit, as military" intervention frustrated an attack on the constabulary barracks at Brosna, County" Kerry. Six armed men. with a motor-car containing arms and ammunition, w"ere captured. Munitions are hurriedly arriving at Cork. The Harbour Commissioners refused to unlock the big cranes for an armed transport which was unloading military lorries. Soldiers broke the locks and commenced the unloading, but little progress was made in the absence of dockers. The railway strikers have not returned to work, and workers at Limerick refuse/ to handle coal intended for the Constabulary. Constables unloaded it, protected by' an armed escort.

DE VALERA WIRE RETURN. (Received Wednesday, 7.30 p.m.) LONDON, June 8. De Valera has written to the Irish Vigilance Association, stating that he will shortly be leaving America, and will visit England, “because it is due to the loyalty and co-operation of my friends in England that I should call and personally deliver a message. After that I will cross and feast my eyes afresh upon the long-tortured, outraged land to which alone we owe inherited allegiance.”

[The Press Association stated yesterday: “Probably de Valera will accompany Archbishop Mannix to Rome.”!
