SHANNON NOTES.

The adjourned meeting of the Council was held on Tuesday night. Present: The Mayor (Mr Murdoch), Councillors Fargher, Hyde, McMillan. Berquist, Richardson, Hook and Kelly.

An invitation from Foxton to send delegates to a meeting to consider the Palmerston North suburban area, was held over til! next meeting, the Town Clerk being instructed to procure in the meantime further information. Cr Fargher referred to the want of cohesion in the various committees and the laxity of supervision that prevailed. The Mayor endorsed Cr Fargher’s remarks, but said he personally could take no blame, as he had attended committee meetings at all times and had given his utmost attention to the public business. Other councillors endorsed Cr Fargher’s remarks. Cr Hyde being the most candid in his statements concerning the working of the Council. The Mayor said in view ol the unanimous opinion, lie would dissolve all the committees and have a re-election. This was done, and a special meeting will oe held next Monday night for their re -election.

It was resolved to reply to a letter Mom Mr Seifert and inform him the Council could not approach the County Council re damage to the roads through heavy traffic.

The Mayor and Councillors Fargher and Hyde were appointed a committee to deal with the matter of obtaining a resident medical man. An old resident, Mr Tom Brown, has just passed?away at Shannon. He arrived from Devonshire 38 years ago, and took up land some little time after his arrival. He saw all the strenuous life of the bush and carved out a home for himself. The deceased was greatly respected. He was married to a daughter of the late Mr Newton, and is a brother of Mrs Venn.
