HOROWHENUA NOTES.
(From Our Own Correspondent.)
Mr G. Elliott, formerly one of the Levin Dairy Company 's creamery managers, has returned after a short spell of farming in the Waikato, and taken up residence here. In the first draft of stations at the Methodist Conference, the Rev. J. H. Haslam, of Levin, is under transfer to Invercargill. The Eev. N. Turner is named to fill the vacancy in Levin. The marriage has just taken place of Mr C. H. Martin, of Levin, and Miss Doris Seaton, of Wellington. Mr Martin is a returned soldier, who recently purchased a business here. Mr J. Young, proprietor of the Levin Sash and Door Factory, had the misfortune to fall from his bicycle whilst descending a hill near Rekorangi the other day, and broke his collarbone, besides receiving a bad shaking. With great grit he cycled on to TVaikanae, a distance of seven miles, to receive medical attention. Ho is now progressing well.
Some big prices have been realised for farm properties about here of late. One at Ohau reached over £IOO per acre, whilst £I2S per acre was refused for another at Heatherlea.
Corporal W. 11. Walker and Private O. Better, of Levin, returned home on Saturday morning. Both took part in all the late fighting of the great war. The residence of Mr H. Walker w*s entered during Friday night, and the sum of £25 taken from Mr Walker's clothing, which was hanging in the* room where lie was sleeping. The thief evidently entered by the back door, which was unolcked, and carried out his purpose so well that the loss wbb not discovered till next morning.
