He states that Kurapai will be his only representative at Marton. The election of Mr L. H. Mr Collinson takes a keen interest in hunting, galloping and trotting from a purely sporting point of view, and the Manawatu Club are to bo congratulated on having his services at their disposal. Mr IT. R. Cooper, in moving a vote of thanks to Mr J. Goring Johnston, the retiring president, at the Manawatu Racing Club’s annual mooting, expressed the wish that Mr Johnston would have the pleasure of leading in this year’s Derby winner. DANNEVIRKE RACING CLUB. The annual general meeting of members of the Dannevirke Racing Club will be held at the office of Mr F. C. Stubbs, Ward Street, Dannevirke, on Monday next at 8 o’clock p.m. The report and balance-sheet, which wdll be presented at the meeting, shows that the club has experienced the most succosful year since its inception. The club had the good fortune to get back its third day just in time for the last Autumn Meeting, when the usual two days’ race meeting was held. The effect of this is shown by the fact that while for the year ending 30th June, 1918, the totalisator receipts were £3947 14/3, they amounted, for the year just ended, to no less than £8033 5/9 —an increase of £4085 11/6, or more than double the receipts for the previous season, and £2795 1/9 more than the last season, when the club had three days’ racing. Nor is this the only increase. For the season under review, entry fees have risen to £1295 1/6 from £6ll 15/6, and privileges to £1429 3/6 from £592 10/ (more than double), and the total receipts arc £11,262 3/ as against £5682 18/8. Stakes rose from £1865 2/ to £3545, and contributions to the revenue of the Dominion from £1648 4/ to £3412 10/10. At the end of the previous year the club owed the Bank of New Zealand £1531 7/8, while at 30th June last the Bank owed the club £461 1/10, an improvement of £1992 9/6. The profit for the year stands at £1845 0/8 as against £22 5/3 for the previous year, and this after writing off £483 3/ for depreciation and spending £344 7/6 on repairs and maintenance,. of a substantial and permanent character. The committee believes that these figures justify the progressive policy that has been adopted during the past twelve months in the way of increased stakes and better accommodation, and trusts that the club will support still further progressive measures which the committee has ir. view. Regret is expressed at the deaths of Messrs A. L. D. Fraser, W. H. Hartgill, R. Baker, M. P. Knight, H. Baker, J. Curtis, junr., J. Cullinane, G. F. Green, A. D. Better, R. 11. Eobertshawe, T. Wcllwood. J. Winteringham, Rangi, Terry Nikora and Hocra Rangi, all of whom had done good service for the club. The following officials retire from office: Patron, Mr G. Hunter, M.P.; president, Mr T. H. G. Lloyd; vicepresidents, Major Armstrong and Mr C. A Jensen; committeemen, Messrs J. A. Riddell, R. N. Blakcston, W. G. Frame and T McDermott; treasurer, Mr G. J. E Bickford. Mr T. H. G. Lloyd (president) and Mr Walter Dobson (secretary) arc both to be congratulated on the very satisfactory results that have attended their efforts during the year, and no doubt their good work will DO fully recognised at Monday’s meeting, of the club, which is to be congratulated on having two such capable executive officers to look after its affairs. At this wet season of the year "the correct” attire is a Stetson hat and “trench” coat. Sports throughout the Dominion know the value attaching o these. Those that are short in this neccssar-v equipment should step along to Alt’.'Mahons in the Square. can’t spot a winner without em.
