PERSONAL PARAGRAPHS.
Gunner L. Mclles is returning to New Zealand by tlio Hororata, which is due about 20th September. Rifleman E. P. Ronberg is arriving by the troopship Ayrshire, which is due about 20th September. Last evening an investiture was held at Government House, at which the Governor-General presented letters patent of knighthood to Sir J. W. Salmond, and Sir W. B. Edwards, and a number of other badges and decorations. Mr and Mrs W. F. Durward, of North Street, received news by yesterday's mail that their son, Bert, who has been studying medicine in Edinburgh, had recently passed the first section of the final degree in medicine and had been appointed a house surgeon at the Royal Infirmary, Edinburgh. Mr Durward, janr., is an old pupil of the Palmerston North High School, and his many friends will be pleased to hear of the advancement he is making in his profession. At All Saints’ Church on Wednesday last. Miss Alice Mann, of Palmerston North, was married to Mr A. S. Caldwell, of Dunedin. The bride, w r ho was given away by her father, wore a smart violet cloth costume with champagne coloured hat trimmed with pansies. She also carried a pretty apricot tinted bouquet. She was attended by on© bridesmaid. her sister. Miss Emma Mann, who wore a navy costume and also carried a bouquet. The bridegroom’s brother, Mr C. Caldwell, acted as best man. The bride’s travelling dress waa n fawn costume, and she also wore black fox furs. Cap tala. Hal Loughnan, M.C., and Lieut. Alex. Strang, arrived in Wellington by the Essex yesterday. Messrs. C. J. Parr and H. Poland, M’s. P., stayed in Palmerston last evening. They are proceeding to Wellington to get their orders for the coming session. Mr Will, first assistant at the Te Ante Native College, has been appointed to succeed the Rev. G. Calvert Blathwayt as principal of the Otaki Native College. Mr Will has been associated with the Te Aute College for many years. Two of our windows will be of special interest to Ladies just now. No. 7 window contains an advance showing of new voiles, and in No. 9 the now picture checks are displayed. These fabrics appear with a freshness typical of spring.
