NOTES.

Gold Soult was tiring very quickly when he fell in the hurdles nt Levin, but was so far ahead at the time that it looked a pound to a shilling on him winning.

Detroit, who showed greatly improved form at Levin, looked like a winner at the home turn, and it was only Zola ’g condition which beat him at the finish.

No. 6 was the lucky saddle cloth at Levin, four out of the seven races goting to horses carrying that number.

‘‘Down the Line” trained horses won five races out of seven at Levin. Trainer Garment accounting for four of them; ho had bad luck in not adding another to his list as Metullum had all the worst of the luck in the hurdles and then ran third.

American Beauty is only a pony, but she can gallop some. At present she looks as if she will never be anything like but a pony, which is a pity as it is bound to tell against her when she has to run in the better-class company.

Foeman ran badly at Levin, the Advance gelding is an in and out sort of a customer at the best of times.

Dainty Step, who won at Otaki and Levin, is a line looking filly by Lucillus out of Adoption. She won her race at Levin very easily and made the opposition look very cheap when it came to the business end of the race.

R. S. Bagby with three wins was the most successful jockey at Levin.

Old Haumakaka made Ahika and Want do their best in the la-st raco at Levin, The old chap was paying a. hat full, and looks as if he still has a race loft in him.

Gold Problem upset a hot thing in Royal Chef at Levin. Bagby hopped the Gold Crest gelding out at barrier rise and did not give him a let up until after he had passed the winning post. Our information, re W. Young, which came from a. reliable source, was contrary to fact. It appears that Young made an application to the Manawatu Racing Club to bo allowed to ride work and do stable duties; this application was duly considered and turned down, and there the matter ends for the present. The matter before the Wanganui District Committee was a complaint received that Young was in attendance at racecourses during the term of hia disqualification, He was called before the committee to give an explanation of his conduct, but beyond administering a caution nothing was done. Nominations for the Hawke ’a Bay winter meeting close on Friday of this week at 8 p.m. Sec ‘ ‘ Referee ’ ’ for full programme. MANAWATU HUNT CLUB STEEPLECHASE. The programme for the Manawatu Hunt Club ’s annual steeplechase meeting to be hold at the Manawatu Racing Club's Awapuni course on July 30th, has been approved by the Wanganui District Committee. Now that the drought has broken, you will need a new rain coat to keep out the wet at the forthcoming meeting. Alf. Mahon has the best selection of coats to turn the rain in Palmerston; call in and get fixed up to-day. Ho also carries large stocks of warm underclothing.*
