The ground av:>_s in good condition for yesterday’s League match, New South Wales v. Ncav Zealand. There was an attendance of 44,000. The game Avas fast throughout, though the Blacks, particularly in the early part, showed tho effects of their quarantine detention and want of practice; but in the second half they greatly improved, both in stamina and combination. Shortly after starting Hordcr opened on Ncav South Wales’ account., scoring a try. which Oxford converted. Mixed play followed, ending in Alltchcll kicking a penalty. From that point to the end of the spell the Welshmen kept the visitors hard pressed. Their forwards showed better in the packs, but the Blacks Avcre outclassed, Cubitt and Border each added a try, Hordcr converting tho last. At half-time tho scores were: Now South Wales 33., New' Zealand 2. In the second spell Ncav Zealand forced the game, the ball being frequently in the home twenty-live. Before Ncw t Zealand had rallied, the home team, after a great passing rush, scored, Burge crossing the line, and Hordcr converting. The visitors renewed tho attack, and Ifwerson kicked a penalty goal; then, McGregor, securing from a kick-off, scored, and Ifwerson converted., making the score: New South Wales IS. New Zealand 9. A fCAV minutes later Ifwerson kicked a penalty, and Davison, avlio took the place of Wilson, crossed tho line, Ifwerson converting- Shortly after this Horden again scored, and converted for New South Wales, and Ifwerson, kicking another penalty, made the final scores: Xoav South Wales 23, New Zealand 18. The "Sun" says that neither team played at their best, and to-morrow's match should T>o a better test. The New Zealand captain is quite satisfied with the team’s Avork. With another match or two their combination will be all that can be desired.
