ALLENBY’S ULTIMATUM.
AMERICA'S SYMPATHY AND REGRET.
[Auo. :uid N.Z. Cable Association.] (Received Sunday, 5.5 p.m.) CAIRO, April 25. General Allenby has issued an ultimatum that officials must resume or be dismissed. Those returning will lose their pay during the strike, and persons obstructing Government work will be eourtmartiallcd.
LONDON, April 25
The United States’ Note recognising the Egyptian Protectorate expresses the sympathy of President and people with the 'legitimate aspirations cf the Egyptians for a further measure of self-government, but views wnth regret the efforts to obtaiu it by violence.
