PASTOR AND ELECTIONS.
STRAIGHT TALK AT PORT \ CHALMERS.
Preaching at the Presbyterian Church ip Port Chalmers on Sunday morning, the - Rev.. A. Whyte made reference the approaching mayoral election. _ Me said that ncvbr before Jia,d he interfered, -fi-pni the- pulgit, in a mayoral contest, says',,, the Otagq Dady Times 77 but he believed that this dee* tion was critical for the Dominion. Religion and loyalty, edqeation and thrift, and energy had been the watchwords old Otago, but a new element had come in of recent years, and it had of lat® become very bold. At the beginning ox the war a representative of this party had assured him that the war was a canitalists’ war, that it had no interest for the people, and that the people would be as happy under the rule of the Kaiser as under that of the King. Som« time afterwards another representative, not without influence, had called hmself right out a Revolutionary bocialxst. It was known throughout the country that at Port Chalmers this Bolshevist clement was face to face with the faithful Scottish and Philip Laing element, If the Bolshevist element returned their candidate to the mayor’s chair all the Bolshevist forces in the country won.* shriek their applause, and say; ‘ After Port Chalmers, then Parliament; a«t then the domination of Australia and the world.”
