The "New York Sun's” Paris cor-rospondf’-nt states that members of the Peace Conference are planning to im sort in the League of Nations’ covenant a clause recognising racial equality in order to placate the Japanese clement, and assure peace by May. The wording of the clause will bo so wide as to bo harmless. British representatives arc making a supreme effort to pacify Mr Hughes and get his promise that he will not hold out against some form of concession to the Japanese. ASIATIC QUESTIONS. The “New York Times” Paris correspondent interviewed President Wilson on the subject of China’s claims to Kiaochau and Shantung. President Wilson said that it would be better for the world and China if the questions could be settled entirely by the Asiatics themselves, the questions being purely Asiatics.
