CHELTENHAM SPORTS.

A SUCCESSFUL GATHERING. In keeping with its high reputation as a sports gathering the CheltenhamKiwitea Athlctie and Military Sport's Club again provided a splendid day's sport for folk from far and near. The weather was showery and boisterous in the early part of the day, but nevertheless there was a good attendance, the gate takings exceeding that of last year by over £6. The club is to be commended on the good work of its officials, whose efforts to promote a successful day were well rewarded. Typical of country clubs the programme provided ample opportunity for both riders and horses to display their ability. The class of horses competing ranked with the best in New Zealand and some have been successful in show rings. The riding was remarkably good, and even small children showed great skill. There were several falls during the jumping events, but fortunately, no one was injured. Mr M. Desmond judged the horse events, the chief of which was the Open Jump (hunting style). By winning the Open Jumpers' competition Mr Bryce having won that event with "Twilight" on previous occasions, becomes possessor of a handsome cup which has been competed for, for ma'T years. The cup was presented to Mr Bryce by the President, Mr E. Sinclair, amidst ringing cheers. "Twilight" has, during her jumping career, won £742 exclusive of yesterday's win, and a large portion of that sum has been donated to patriotic purposes. The club wish to especially thank all those who donated prizes and trophies. A programme of music was played by the Feilding Brass Band, which considerably added to the day's enjoyment..
