MANAWATU MAKES POOR SHEWING. (By Telegraph —''Times" Special.. WANGANUI, Last JNight. The cricket match commenced shortly after eleven o 'clock, having been delayed half an hour by the ram. Maunwutu won the toss, Greer and MeVicar opening to the bowling of Luxford and Watson. With the exception of MeVicar who made 18, Manawatu made a poor showing and at the luncheon adjournment nine wickets had fallen for 6'J runs, Leet and McLaehlan being the not out men. The fielding of the Wanganui team, although having to put up with a greasy ball, was excellent. On resuming after lunch, Manawatu carried their score to 70, Lent being caught and bowled by Rev. Biamires, after carefully compiling ten runs, MeLauchlan being not out with. ToWauganuni now commenced their first innings and a line display of batting ensued. The wicket at this stage was perfect and as a result Cave and Biamires soon became quite at home to the bowling of McLauchlan and MeVicar. Greer replacing McLauchlan steadied the pace of run-getting considerably and soon brought about a. change. Greer's bowling was quite up to his old form and saved the situation, as far as Manawatu was concerned The visitors fielding was brilliant right through the Wanganui inning*, Lidded, Rose and MeVicar getting through some excellent work. Wanganui completed .the innings just on five o 'clock for 216 runs, Cave and Biamires making 41 and 50 respectively in great style. In their second innings Manawatu lost five wickets for 45 runs, Eglington and McLauchlan (both out) for 17 and 14 respectively. Full detailed scores will be forwarded to-morrow.
