DANNEVIRKE DOINGS

(By our Special Representative.) A bcc-farmcr and labourer named George Win. Fianaghan died in the hospital to-day from wounds inflicted late on Sunday night on his throat with a razor. Deceased, who was a married man, aged 41 years, was delirious when lie committed the act. During the week-end the following further deaths occurred. Miss Gladys Prior. 15; daughter of Mr J. Prior; Win. Geo. Harrigan, 2(i. son or Mr and Mrs Win, Harrigan, and a returned soldier; Francis Fannelton, a married man. 42, late of Oamaru; Miss Dorothea Tudor Brewer, aged 15; Mr Fred Tarr, of Rua Roa, who leaves a widow and two children. Deceased was chairman of the Rua Roa School Committee. More deaths among th e natives: liana Whaitiri, and Hocra Rangi Whakacwai, 78 years; Tamihana Te Awatcne, of Tahoraite, aged 75 years. Miss Rita Hill, eldest daughter of Mr A. f-I. Hill, of Danncvirkc, and a onetkii(> welMcnowu resident of: Palmerston North, died ths afternoon in the local hospital. Mr Hill is also stricken badly with the ailment. The late Mr F. G. Dorrington, of Kclburn, Wellington, was a brother of Mr P. W. Dorrington, solicitor, of this town. Respirators have come more into general use during the past few days, and they are being supplied free. Mr and Miss McKenzie (Pringle and Co.) kindly supplied a large number of the respirators. Two of* the local doctors are siearlily recovering, and the remaining couple. Dr. Dawson and Dr. Wm. Beedie, are having, as may be imagined, a strenuous time. Surgeon-Major W. C Hartgill, who has been awarded a bar to his Military Cross, is a son of the late Mr W. H. Hartgill. Splendid aid has been rendered at Kiritaki by Mrs J. H. Lory. Miss Ross has been also a valued helper, but both are now down with the 'flu. At Te Rehunga, the sick were tended by Mrs J. Anderson, but she has now a temperature herself. Mr and Mrs Brewer, who have lost their daughter, also lost three sons in the war, and other members of the family are ill. Miss E. Brewer was one of the earliest volunteer nurses at the local hospital.
