The Minister for Internal Affairs, the Hon. G. W. Russell, has sanctioned the postponement of the Auckland Racing Club 'a Spring Meeting until January 4, conditional upon the Racing Conference approving of the alteration in date, and the programme as originally drafted remaining unaltered. Under ordinary circumstances the weights for the Auckland Cup and Railway Handicap would have made their appearance on Friday, but owing to the illness of tho handicapper, Mr F. J. Macmanemin, the date of the declaration of the weights has been postponed. Tho winning representative of the former was Patron, while Malua's son was Malvolio. Taken as a whole, col-onial-bred sires have well held their own in connection with the Melbourne Cup. During the last 20 years they have been represented by 10 winners—a good performance in these days of numerous importations.

Mr A. W. Rutherford, jun., who died in Christchurch, was a prominent figure in racing circles in the South Island, having been closely identified with the sport there. He always had a number of horses in training, and at the time of his death had Kilrush, Daytime, .lingo, and Samiscn working at Riccnrton under the charge of A. McAulay.

Advices to hand from Canterbury state that Biplane has been brought back from Australia. The dual Derby winner has been sent to his owner's station at North Canterbury, where he will be given, a long spell. Hopes are entertained that the son of Comedy King will again prove trainable; but it is held to be unlikely that any attempt in that direction will be made ior several months; further than that tho brown horse will probably not make a reappearance under silk until next season.

A number of local sports arc down with the "flu." and arc advised that they must keep themselves well wrapped up when out of doors. Alf. Mahon lias full stocks of all classes of warm underclothing and top coats, which will be found just the thing for those on the sick list.*
